Order your doctoral thesis by using Unigrafia鈥檚 publication ordering system. The ordering process has two phases. Through Unigrafia you will order:
Read the instructions from Unigrafia鈥檚 web page (unigrafia.fi).
The doctoral student should use the uniform title and abstract pages. The title pages and abstract pages are available as a separate Word document, which you can submit to Unigrafia as a separate file when you place an order for your doctoral thesis. The new accessible Word writing template includes the title pages and abstract pages.
You can also buy professional layout and paging services from Unigrafia. Read more about the service on the Unigrafia鈥檚 web page under (unigrafia.fi).
Below you will find samples of correctly formatted theses. Use them as your help to see how the page layout and page numbering is done. You can also see how the thesis looks when it is ready. New examples with new covers will be available 2025.
Unigrafia uses standard materials for content and cover. Unigrafia offers also two other material packages from which you can choose with additional cost. If you are using other printing house for printing than Unigrafia, make sure the materials are in accordance with Aalto University鈥檚 standard. Read more about the Printing materials on the Unigrafia鈥檚 web page under (Unigrafia.fi).
Aalto University recommends using Unigrafia for printing. Unigrafia will prepare an electronic public display version of all ordered doctoral theses and delivers them directly to the Aalto publication support team. In a normal process Unigrafia will print and deliver the printed books as well, but the doctoral student can order the printing and yhe delivery of the printed version from a another printing house if they like. In such case the doctoral student requests offers from the printing houses themselves and is independently responsible for the whole printing process and for completing each required step of the process according to the publication schedule.
If you wish to use another printing house than Unigrafia:
Follow the instructions on Unigrafia鈥檚 web page, but
Finalise your order and ask Unigrafia to send you the print file of your doctoral thesis. You can send the print file to your printing house.
If the headings or abstracts of your publication contain (mathematical) special characters you can write the special characters as they are to the title page and to the abstract page. Unigrafia will copy the title of your thesis from the title page to the front cover of your thesis.
The minimum number of printed thesis is 22 copies. The rest of the printed copies (15 copies) go to the doctoral student and their school. Check the number of copies required by your School (aalto.fi).
Aalto University's departments pay max 230鈧 + vat of printing costs per doctoral student. This covers the cost of 22 books. The fee includes one correction round of the proof. All the rest will be charged from the doctoral student.
Note: in case you publish your thesis through ARTS Theses, the costs covered and the number of books printed are explained separately.
The printing house Unigrafia will send the invoice directly to your school or department.
Unigrafia will receive the invoicing information automatically when you select your school and department on the order form for the printing of the doctoral theses.
If the doctoral student is using other printing house than Unigrafia for printing, they will pay the printing costs first themself. The costs can be claimed back from the school provided the copy of the original invoice is included with the claim. The original invoice should be kept until the reimbursement has been issued.
Note: Do not use Aalto University's address for the invoicing information if you are paying the costs yourself. Use e.g. your own home address.
Delivery address: The printed books should always be delived to your School and not your home address.
Unigrafia's order form will automatically offer you the delivery address based on the school and department information you have selected on the form. If you have more than one option select the delivery address you wish to use.
When the doctoral thesis is approved and published, it is not possible to edit the contents afterwards. However, you can point out the corrections with a separate Errata page attached to the thesis page on Aaltodoc. The errata PDF is linked to the web page of the thesis as a separate file.
