Communications services

Communications Services aims to act as a bridge between the university and society, making the work done at Aalto understandable and meaningful. Through communications expertise, we can support our community in engaging in public dialogue. Our mission is to make Aalto University's contributions widely known and to support the university's strategic goals through clear, customer-oriented, and structured communication.

New service portfolio

Over the course of this year, the four units will develop the portfolio of communications and marketing services. Moving forward, we will clarify the communications tools we offer and which services are provided, in part or in whole, by Communications Services. The goal is to produce a customer-oriented, understandable, and impactful service for both the Aalto community and external stakeholders. 

Additionally, Communication Services is developing a content and channel plan to define key topics for external communication and the roles of Aalto’s communications channels. 

Four units

  • The Brand, Marketing, and Digital Communications Unit develops and manages the university’s joint communication and marketing tools and processes. The unit is also responsible for building a community-driven brand, student recruitment and marketing, and digital experience platforms. The unit is led by Robert Salvén, Head of Brand, Digital, and Marketing. 
     
  • The Schools’ Communication Services Unit provides comprehensive communications and marketing services for Aalto's six schools. This includes communications about research and education, student marketing, alumni communications, specific school events, and much more. Each school will continue to have its own communications and marketing specialists. Additionally, we have increased resources for the schools' shared communication service, which we hope will ease the everyday work at the schools. Work community communications will support the management and leadership of schools and departments. The unit is led by Minna Tiainen, Head of Schools’ Communications Services. 
     
  • The Events and Campus Experience Unit is responsible for events targeting at the university’s community and its stakeholders, such as the opening of the academic year and alumni weekend, and for enhancing campus attractiveness. The unit also manages the production of open events in Marsio, exhibitions, Aalto Shop, and coordinates campus visits. This unit is led by Jessica Sinikoski, Head of Events and Campus Experience.
     
  • The External Communications unit is responsible for the university’s media relations in Finland and abroad, content production for and management of shared channels, Aalto University Magazine, and communications planning for the university’s key themes in research, education, and impact. We also support the university leadership in communications activities and coordinate crisis communications and media trainings. The unit is led by Riikka Haikarainen, Head of External Communications.
