A Champion member of the global PRME network for sustainability education
Principles of Responsible Management Education was first established in 2007 at the United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit. It was supported by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and more than 1,000 businesses, civil society, and government leaders. It derives from the United Nations Global Compact’s (UNGC) principles that urges businesses to adopt sustainable approaches. The PRME is an initiative that supports this agenda with a focus of responsible management education.
Bringing together more than 800 academic institutions in nearly 100 countries, PRME is a global network that drives change through setting the agenda for responsible business education, knowledge exchange and sharing of best practices across committed members.
Aalto University School of Business is a signatory of PRME since 2008 and now, during the cycle of 2024–2025, a Champion level member of the network. It is a recognition of the work we have done, and a commitment to continue advancing our efforts for sustainability.
The seven principles of PRME
The work under the PRME is built around seven principles, which comprehensively address areas of management education and seek to secure a process of continuous improvement. The overall aim, to educate business professionals that are capable and willing to manage the complex, global sustainability challenges that societies are facing.
The seven principles of PRME are:
- Purpose: We advance responsible management education to foster inclusive prosperity in a world of thriving ecosystems.
- Values: We place organizational responsibility and accountability to society and the planet at the core of what we do.
- Teach: We transform our learning environments by integrating responsible management concepts and practices into our curriculum and pedagogy.
- Research: We study people, organizations, institutions, and the state of the world to inspire responsible management and education practice.
- Partner: We engage people from business, government, civil society, and academia to advance responsible and accountable management education and practice.
- Practice: We adopt responsible and accountable management principles in our own governance and operations.
- Share: We share our successes and failures with each other to enable our collective learning and best live our common values and purpose.
