Head of Department

The activities of the department are directed by the head of department, appointed by the dean. The term of the head of department is at most five years. The deputy heads of department are appointed for the same term as the head of department.

The head of department is responsible for the department’s activities in general, including planning the department’s finances and deciding on its use of financial resources as well as preparing the curricula of the department. The head of department decides on questions related to recruitment and hiring of staff insofar as the head of department has been authorised to do so. The head of department is also responsible for promoting the occupational well-being of department staff. More information about the responsibilities of the head of department can be found in the bylaws of the School of Electrical Engineering

The departments regularly organize meetings to which all personnel are invited. The meeting invitation is sent via the email lists of the departments.

Metsähovi Radio Observatory

Metsähovi Radio Observatory

Metsähovi Radio Observatory is the only astronomical radio observatory in Finland. Metsähovi’s main instrument is the 14-metre radio telescope, which is used around the clock, every day of the year. Its observational data is used, e.g., for studying active galaxies, the Sun, and the rotation of the Earth.
