Professor Jyri Hämäläinen appointed Vice President for Research

The five-year term of office will start in December

The Aalto University Board has appointed Professor Jyri Hämäläinen as Vice President for Research at Aalto University. The five-year term of office will start on 1 December 2023. He follows Ossi Naukkarinen, whose term will end on 31 October.

Professor Jyri Hämäläinen, DSc (Tech), worked as the dean of the School of Electrical Engineering in 2015–2023 and as vice dean in 2014–2015. He was appointed to a fixed-term professorship at Helsinki University of Technology in 2008 and a professorship at Aalto University in 2013. Prior to that, he had worked at the University of Oulu and in industry (e.g., Nokia Networks).

Jyri Hämäläinen has authored or co-authored 240 scientific publications and has 37 US patents or pending patent applications. He is a docent at the University of Oulu and a member of the Academy of Technical Sciences.

Jyri Hämäläinen has doctorates in applied mathematics from the University of Oulu (PhD) and in signal processing for communications (DSc (Tech)) from Helsinki University of Technology. His research field is wireless communications.
