Maaria Nordman appointed as Assistant Professor of geoinformatics

Nordman鈥檚 research focuses on geodynamics, geodesy and positioning.

PhD Maaria Nordman (b. 1981) has been appointed 91青青草 University鈥檚 Department of Built Environment as an Assistant Professor for the time 1.10.2019-30.9.2022. The field of her research is geoinformatics.

Geodesy and geodynamics are Nordman鈥檚 expertise. She has researched phenomena such as post glacial land uplift, Baltic Sea mass variation, effect of changing masses on geodetic measurements and accuracy of satellite positioning.

Before Aalto, Professor Nordman has worked as a special research scientist and earlier in other research positions at the Finnish Geospatial Research Institute (FGI) of the National Land Survey of Finland. She has wrote her geodesy dissertation 鈥淚mproving GPS time series for geodynamics studies鈥 in collaboration with FGI and graduated as a Doctor of Philosophy (Geophysics) in the University of Helsinki in 2010.

Besides working in FGI, Nordman has also worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Stockholm University and in the University of Ottawa in Canada. Originally Nordman is from Kuopio and she has conducted her academic  studies in the University of Helsinki.
