Joint Research Centre of Excellence for Arctic Shipping and Operations
Finland' strong scientific achievements and considerable doctoral training in the field of Arctic technology were put to use in the international CEARCTIC project (2013-2018).

Research for sustainability
Aalto University generates knowledge, understanding and solutions that enable well-being within the limits of one planet. We combine expertise in art, technology, and business to develop solutions for some of the world's greatest challenges.

Sustainable Aalto
Understood through all its dimensions - ecological, social, economic and cultural - we are committed to carrying out our activities in a sustainable manner. For example, we work actively to develop the energy efficiency of our property portfolio and to reduce energy consumption in our campuses.

COMP Seminars
COMP researchers shared their ongoing research at regular seminars by invited speakers and given by our researchers.

COMP Research
The COMP Centre of Excellence (2012-2017) strived at a multiscale approach to condensed-matter and materials research, ranging from the quantum world of 氓ngstr枚ms and femtoseconds to macroscopic length and time scales
COMP: Exploring Unseen Worlds
The basic strategy of COMP (2012-2017) was to develop and apply cutting-edge theoretical and computational methods and the best available computing resources in attacking challenging problems in condensed-matter and materials physics.

Research highlights & publications
Our aim is to develop a fundamental understanding of how self-assembled multicomponent materials of the future can be designed and produced using biological starting materials, based on plant cell wall structures and designed biological macromolecules.
Contact information: The LIBER Centre
The Centre of Excellence HYBER is located in the Otaniemi campus area. The research groups can be found at the Department of Applied Physics and Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems of Aalto University. In addition, VTT industrial Biotechnology unit is located in close proximity.

Biological tailors
Our research groups work as biological 鈥渢ailors鈥 on molecular self-assembly, genetic engineering of proteins, biotechnical production of engineered biomolecules, and plant cell wall materials.

Graduation Party 2025
Aalto University celebrates the graduates on 11 June 2025. Warmest congratulations to everybody!

Tradition of the ceremonial conferment
A ceremonial conferment is an academic celebration, in which doctorates and honorary doctorates in different fields are conferred, in some universities also master's degrees.
Disruption Briefs
Disruption Brief series consists of short notes by the researchers of the Digital Disruption of Industry consortium and their co-authors. It is intended for rapid dissemination of the ideas and thought of the authors for comments and debate in an accessible form.
University of Turku
The interdisciplinary research group is formed around top research from three UTU faculties.
LUT
We strive to understand the co-evolution of the actors in the energy ecosystem and their broader institutional environment to find out how they can best benefit from the transformation coming from digitalization and related business models.
ETLA
In this project, the role of ETLA will focus on the impact of existing and emerging Internet platform on the market structures, relative positions of the various stakeholders, their strategic options, and the implications to the operations of industry and the related institutions.
