What Remains by Alarik Rantala

When trying to look for commonalities between species, only one factor unites them all: the inevitability of death. However, unlike other species, humans are bedevilled by the desire to cling to the mortal realm, even in death. For only when one is forgotten, are they truly dead. Even funeral rites undermine the circle of life, as they prolong the decay of the human body. While I will rot and be devoured by maggots, this effigy of my body will outlive even future generations as a piece of fired clay.

Materials: Fired clay, soil, citrus japonica

Species, gender, categorisations to make our world easier to deal with. During my work with understanding my own gender identity, I completely lost my grasp on what femininity and masculinity mean. What is it to feel feminine or masculine? What makes an object seem masculine or feminine?

TAMED DISSONANCE: Grasping our tumultuous nature by Marcelo Guajardo D谩vila

Humanity is inherently chaotic, where order and disorder constantly intertwine, one cannot exist without the other. Through photographic experimentation and overlapping images, I capture everyday chaos from our 鈥渘ew nature鈥, the human-made ecosystem of the city.
