Gender specimen by Vladimir Elia von Arx

Species, gender, categorisations to make our world easier to deal with. During my work with understanding my own gender identity, I completely lost my grasp on what femininity and masculinity mean. What is it to feel feminine or masculine? What makes an object seem masculine or feminine? In this work the viewer is invited to vote on which bowls from a collection they deem more feminine or masculine, and are thus confronted with the question of what they actually mean with those terms and whether there is any point in differentiating. Especially since none of the results are entirely binary.

Humanity is inherently chaotic, where order and disorder constantly intertwine, one cannot exist without the other. Through photographic experimentation and overlapping images, I capture everyday chaos from our 鈥渘ew nature鈥, the human-made ecosystem of the city.
