Evaluation is based on assessment criteria in the Master's thesis guide for the School of Arts, Design and Architecture (above). As a part of the statement the examiners propose a grade for the thesis, grading scale is 1-5 (0=failed). The thesis is always evaluated as a whole and the grade proposal is given for the whole thesis. The grade is a whole number (no decimals of +/- to be used). The statement is given in the language of the thesis.
If there is an artistic or production part in the thesis, examiners arrange a meeting with the student to examine the production component if needed. If the examiners can't see the production / artefact in person, they will examine it based on digital documentation included or appended in the thesis.
The examiner gives their statement to thesis supervisor at latest the date given in evaluation request email.
Aalto pays a fee for external examiners who are not employed at Aalto (200€). HR sends a request for personal information after the thesis has been approved in Programme Committee.
