Master's Programme in Re:Anima

This site contains the student study guide for the Master's Programme in Re:Anima – European Joint Master in Animation. Here you will find the programme curriculum as well as detailed guidelines for planning your studies. All the materials and instructions are for the students in the programme. Master's Programme in Re:Anima – European Joint Master in Animation is organized by the School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

Re:Anima is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) programme in the areas of animation offered by a consortium of three European universities:

  • Lusófona University, Film and Media Arts Department (Portugal)
  • Luca School of Arts, (Belgium)
  • Aalto University, School of Arts, Design and Architecture (Finland)

The programme has an original mobility scheme that takes the students on an educational and creative journey from Belgium, where they will explore the foundations of narrative animation film making, to Finland, where they will strengthen their technical and artistic animation skills and experiment with the craft, to Portugal, where they will use the tools of animation to depict and reflect upon reality, using the processes of animation as a form of documenting the world and act upon it. In the fourth semester, students will be allocated to the schools according to their area of interest.

Throughout the four semesters the students will acquire differentiated competences, explore diverse methods and approaches, while at the same time working on their graduation animation projects. These projects can take the form of fiction, documentary or experimental animation of a various nature that combine techniques and multidisciplinary approaches.

Re:Anima (Erasmus Mundus), Master of Arts (Art and Design)

Re:Anima is oriented towards an international dimension of the industry and the profession. It envisions the creation of an international community of animators who make diverse connections and create a network for future career endeavours. Re:Anima strives for establishing a high-level profile and a network of global connections, namely via the involvement of international professionals in the programme, including experts from international production companies. With the combination of the students’ individual learning trajectory and a broad, multicultural orientation, Re:Anima assumes a unique presence in Europe, and strongly intersects with the needs of the animation film industry.
