Dean's publishing grant to Professor Lily Díaz and her team

The Systems of Representation group led by Lily Díaz promoting research in digital cultural heritage has done significant work in combining research and artistic activities in their projects that have attracted international attention. Students and researchers in the Department of Media have worked in long-term collaboration with the National Board of Antiquities in the Re-discovering Vrouw Maria project, the results of which were showcased in an exhibition in 2011-2012. Professor Diaz has encouraged her students to publish their work in international forums, while she has personally published articles in such high-quality journals as Digital Creativity.

The interactive installation of the Vrouw Maria underwater cultural heritage site was realised as a collaboration between the National Board of Antiquities, The Maritime Museum of Finland and the Department of Media, Media Lab at Aalto University. <br/><br/>Lily Díaz-Kommonen, Markku Reunanen, Ferhat Sen, Svetlana Maras, Mikko Hovi, Cvijeta Miljak, Tommi Horttana, Jussi Muttilainen, Alexander Nikulin – Minna Piirainen and Heikki Sillanpää were part of the team that realised the installation.
