Self-archiving and repositories

Self-archiving (also called as parallel publishing or green open access) refers to depositing a scientific publication or its accepted manuscript version in either a subject-specific repository or an institutional repository.

According 91ÇàÇà²Ý University Open Science and Research Policy, all peer-reviewed scientific research outputs are parallel published in the Aalto University repository according to the publisher's policy and with co-authors’ consent, ensuring the long-term availability of publications.

Benefits of self-archiving

  1. Self-archiving ensures long-term preservation and availability of publications.
  2. Self-archiving increases the visibility and impact of research. A self-archived publication receives a permanent identifier (e.g. URN) in a repository, which is easy to share.
  3. Self-archiving enables open access of scientific publications without article processing charges (APC fees).

How to self-archive my peer-reviewed publications?

  1. Send a copy of the peer-reviewed, accepted manuscript to manuscripts@aalto.fi.
  2. Open Science and ACRIS team deposits the manuscript 91ÇàÇà²Ý's institutional repository (ACRIS/Aaltodoc), taking into account the policies and embargo periods set by the publishers.
  3. Accepted manuscript will be available open access through and either immediately or after an embargo period.

If the publication is open access under a Creative Commons license, Open Science and ACRIS team deposits the final published version 91ÇàÇà²Ý's institutional repository.
