Visit the laboratories of the School of Electrical Engineering in spring 2025

Would you like to visit the School of Electrical Engineering at Aalto University? We organise visits to the Robotics Lab, the Acoustics Lab, the Electronics-ICT laboratory, and the ePowerHub laboratory. You can book your visit via the sign-up forms below. you can visit the laboratory on visit days, which are held usually on Fridays once a month.
School groups can book a visit that includes a tour of one or two laboratories, as well as a general presentation on electrical engineering studies. If you would like to book such a visit for your school group, please see this page: Visit the School of Electrical Engineering.
Visit the Aalto Acoustics Lab
The Aalto Acoustics Lab has outstanding facilities for sound-related research. Lab has three anechoic chambers, a variable acoustics room, a listening test room Otala and three independent sound-insulated booths. The lab also have standard acoustic measurement equipment and systems.
On the tour, visitors have the opportunity to:
- Visit the anechoic chambers
- Experience the variable acoustics room
- Listen to demonstrations of various research conducted at the lab, such as sound scene reproduction in the multichannel chamber.
The tours start in the lobby of A-Grid, Otakaari 5, and last for 45 minutes. The presentations will be given in English by members of the Aalto Acoustics Lab. Unfortunately, we regret that people who require wheelchair access will be unable to participate in certain sections of the tour, nor will service animals be permitted inside certain rooms.

Visit the Robot Lab
The Aalto Robot Lab hosts a wide variety of mobile robots and robotic manipulators. In addition to the robots, our lab features a motion capture area capable of tracking the precise motion of around 30 objects, as well as a VR/XR infrastructure. On the tour, visitors have the opportunity to:
- See how modern robot-manipulators can be easily programmed using interactive user interfaces
- See how a state-of-the art motion tracking system is used for 3D objects tracking
- Play with a Spot robot-dog.
The tours start in the lobby of Maarintie 8 and last for approximately 50 minutes minutes. The presentations will be given in English by members of the Aalto RobotLab. The laboratory is accessible by wheelchair and service animals are allowed in the facility.

Visit the Electronics-ICT Lab
In Aalto Electronics-ICT, we engage in research and teaching in the fields of microelectronics, antenna and microwave engineering, and space technology. Our state-of-the-art laboratory facilities enable us to conduct leading research in these globally active scientific areas. On the tour, visitors have the opportunity to, for example:
- See how small silicon dies are and look with a microscope on a content of one
in the Integrated Circuits lab - Experience electro-magnetic silence in the Antenna Chambers
- See how Finnish cube satellites are constructed, and maybe even hold one in the Space Lab
- Visit Vilho Väisälä workshop where electrical engineering students build their course projects .
The tours start in the lobby of Maarintie 8, and last for approximately 60 minutes. The presentations will be given in Finnish or English by the staff scientists and members of the research groups using the infrastucture. Unfortunately, the laboratories are not accessible for wheelchair, and service animals cannot be permitted to the facilities.
Please book your visit through this form:
Visit the ePowerHub laboratory
The ePowerHub enables research of electrical machines and drives, power electronics, integration of renewables into the electric grid, and characterisation of magnetic materials. These technologies are essential for wind turbines, solar photovoltaic plants, electric vehicles, and many other industrial applications.
There are four research groups working in the ePowerHub facilities. In addition to research, we offer hands-on teaching of energy conversion devices (machines, drives, power electronics) for master's and doctoral students in the field of electrical engineering and automation.
