The shopping centre opened doors to the public for the first time on 30 August at 9 am. Noora V盲nttinen, the Chair of the Board of Aalto University鈥檚 Student Union (AYY) officially opened A Bloc by cutting the ribbon.

鈥淎 Bloc will certainly influence the whole dynamics of the Otaniemi area, and will bring in long-sought-after options for lunch-time, evening and even for the weekend activities. We want A Bloc to have a truly Aalto community style and feel about it, so that it will become a place where everyone chooses to spend their time and meet up with others鈥, says Eetu Ristaniemi, Director of Real Estate Investments at Aalto University Campus & Real Estate.

A Bloc is situated right in the centre of the campus and its location makes it possible for the university and the shopping centre鈥檚 service providers to work more closely together. Some of the store concepts have been developed in co-operation with Aalto鈥檚 students.

The shopping centre increases the number of restaurants in Otaniemi. There are now multiple options for lunch and for dinner: sushi from Konnichiwa, falafels from Fafa鈥檚, Napolitan pizza from Who the xxxx is Alice, poke bowls from Eat Poke HKI, as well as a vast array of options at the large campus restaurant by Fazer Food & Co. In addition to restaurant services, Espresso House, Brooklyn Caf茅 and Jungle Juice Bar complement the variety of food and drink selection.

The long wait is over as A Bloc will also house an Alko store and Lab Store, a new concept store by Clas Ohlson. The shopping centre also includes grocery stores Alepa and K-Market, R-kioski and a pharmacy. A large Esport Aalto fitness centre fills up almost the entire second floor with its Les Mills THE TRIP -indoor cycling hall and HotStudio.
