New secure computing environment, called SECDATA, enables modern research with sensitive data. This dedicated IT infrastructure has been designed with security in mind, and it is compliant with the Finnish Social and Health Data Permit Authority Findata requirements on the secondary use of health and social data.

Powered with graphic cards (GPUs), SECDATA is suitable for intensive machine learning analysis workflows with datasets from hospitals, biobanks, and health registries. The use of the environment is free of charge to research projects, and it is available for Aalto researchers and their research partners.

SECDATA’s security and performance make it a unique capability for research at Aalto University. Moreover, the flexibility of the environment allows us to extend and develop it further to fit multiple research cases.

Additional information
