Kaisa El Ramly wins Nordic Talents'16

The Nordic Talents Pitch Prize went to Finnish writer/director/producer Kaisa el Ramly and her fiction project Scenes from a dying town.

She graduated in June 2016 from the Department of Film, Television and Scenography (ELO), School of Arts, Design and Architecture.

鈥楾his award is such an honour and I am so grateful and happy about it. I still can鈥檛 believe it! Because the award is also a concrete sum of money, I believe and, of course, I hope that it will benefit and help further my future film, and that way it will have an effect on my future career.鈥 says Kaisa El Ramly.

The film observes moments in the life of people seemingly living in the past. It looks at a small community through the eyes of an outsider.

鈥楳y future film is called Kohtauksia kuolevasta kaupungista (鈥淪cenes from a dying town鈥) and it tells the story of a small town that is dying slowly and has been deserted by most people and services. And those who have stayed have over the time become isolated from the rest of the world. The story starts when an outsider arrives in the town. What kind of influence does this person have on the people in the town? What kind of wishes, fears and prejudices does the person evoke in them?鈥 tells Kaisa El Ramly.

The Nordic Talents鈥16 jury was film commissioner at the Norwegian Film Institute Wibecke R酶nseth (NO), animation director/comics artist Anders Morgenthaler (DK), producer at Filmlance International Lars Blomgren (SE), writer/producer and head of drama at Yellow Film Petja Peltomaa (FI) and CEO of EAVE Kristina Trapp.

The amount of the prize is approx. 28500 EUR, which has to be spent to the production costs of the next film.

The previous Nordic Talent Prize winners from ELO were Antti Heikki Pesonen in 2012 and Marja Pyykk枚 in 2008.
