Who are you, what  do you study and why did you choose multidisciplinary courses?

I am Katariina Korolainen. I'm a second year student at the School of Science and I study Information technology. My studies are quite multidisciplinary. I study digital media and media is my minor. I applied multidisciplinary courses at the School of Arts, Design and Architecture already at the earlty period of my studies and through my own interest. I'm interested in phtographing, painting and drawing. I would also like to learn digital painting.

How did you find information on multidisciplinary courses and what was best about the courses?

I spoted a poster and another student mentioned UWS studies. I wanted to meet guys from the other fields of study. Many masters students participated also the course held at the Örö island, where I was too. There I got an idea of the masters programme, in which I could try to apply to. UWS courses gave me about six ects last year. Compering the studies at studying at the School of Science, it was very different. I liked it very much!

How can you benefit your new know-how?

We stayed two or three nights at the On site Island Workshop. It felt a little bit like a camp school. In the morning we had excercises and a lunch, then later at the afternoon we went through the excercises. At Örö island there were two teachers and an assistant teacher. You got acquainted with others very fast at the island. Working was more face-to-face and working self-motivated.
