Father's Badger awarded best student film at Tampere Film Festival

Film directing student at Aalto University's Department of Film (ELO), Sameli Muurimäki's short film Father’s Badger (Isän mäyrä), won the Student Film Award at the Tampere Film Festival, which ended yesterday. The film was screened as part of a National Competition series.
The film is the final work of Muurimäki's master's degree. It tells the story of a middle-aged woman, Maarit, who plans to return to Thailand after her father's funeral, but finds her mother Sylvi and her father's badger in a bar. Sylvi makes a revelation that could change Maarit's plans for leaving.

Also ELO alumn Elina Talvensaari's short documentary film How to Please was awarded at the festival. The film received three awards: the Risto Jarva Award, the Special Mention in the National Competition and the Youth Jury Award. Talvensaari has studied documentary film directing at ELO.
