Defence of dissertation in the field of engineering physics, Paula Sirén, M.Sc.(Tech.)

Successful fusion power plant requires versatile communication between the experts of plasma and reactor physics

Paula Sirén, M.Sc.(Tech.), will defend the dissertation "Modelling of JET and ITER reactor relevant plasma neutron source for neutronics calculation chain" on 19 June 2018 at 13.00 at the Aalto University School of Science, lecture hall M1, Otakaari 1, Espoo. Properties of reactor relevant plasmas have been studied from the view of scenario modelling, fast particle physics and neutronics in this thesis.

Opponent: Professor Massimo Nocente, University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy

Custos: Professor Filip Tuomisto, Aalto University School of Science, Department of Applied Physics

Researchers turn energy loss into a way of creating lossless photonics-based devices

Turning energy loss from a fatal flaw into a dial for fine-tuning new states of matter into existence could yield better laser, quantum and optical technology.

Herd immunity may not work how we think

A new study from researchers at Aalto University suggests that our picture of herd immunity may be incomplete — and that understanding how people are connected could be just as important as knowing how many are immune.
