Key Findings

The AllWell? survey looks at students’ ability to study and their experiences of teaching and peer support. The long-running pandemic has had a multitude of effects on students’ coping and learning experiences. This is also reflected in the AllWell? survey results.

This spring, the share of students at risk of study-related burnout had increased from the previous year: some 24% of them are at risk of burnout (in spring 2021, the corresponding figure was 23%). The results of consecutive surveys suggest that the levels of study burnout have increased during the pandemic.

The availability of peer support among students has continued to decrease, with 34% of the survey respondents reporting that they were lacking peer support. Among the students who took the survey, a total of 55% felt they were part of a group related to their studies, 18% were not sure and 28% did not feel they belonged to any groups related to their studies. Their social encounters have grown significantly fewer and experiences of loneliness during studies have increased over the past two years.

A positive development is the fact that students’ experience of the alignment of teaching has improved during the time of remote studies. It has continued to improve over the past two years. The respondents praised the teaching staff for taking the students’ challenging situation during the pandemic into account in various ways. The survey responses suggest that students would like to have more contact teaching. On the other hand, they still appreciate the flexibility brought about by remote teaching.

Next steps

We have sent all survey respondents individual feedback based on their survey responses, designed to help them know themselves better as students. The survey results have been reported to the management of the schools and programme directors. They will receive support for the development of teaching based on the AllWell? survey results.

The results will be discussed in school- and programme-level events over the spring and autumn. The goal is to take account of the results in the development of curricula, programmes and teaching. From the viewpoint of university services and operations, the results give us an important insight into what we could do better as a university.

The next AllWell? survey will be conducted in the spring of 2023. Thank you once again to every student who has taken the survey this year or in previous years!
