Admission results are published on 9 April 2025. All applicants receive an email notification once their results are published. Admitted applicants will receive an official electronic admission letter by email. Read the admission materials carefully and follow the instructions.

Accept your admission offer at Studyinfo.fi according to the given instructions as soon as possible. The admission offer must be accepted at the latest by 29 April 2025 (3:00 pm, GMT +3). If you have any problems with accepting the offer online, contact the Student Services immediately.

If you fail to accept the admission offer by the deadline, the admission offer will be cancelled.

The notification of acceptance is binding. Once you have accepted the offer, the acceptance cannot be cancelled.

If you decide to decline your admission offer, inform your decision at as soon as possible. This is important so that the study place can be offered to an applicant placed on a waiting list as soon as possible.

Instructions on accepting or declining the study place:

• If you have a Finnish personal identity code and Finnish online banking ID / mobile certificate:
  Accept the study place in the portal by logging into My Studyinfo service. Follow the instructions in the Studyinfo portal on how to accept the admission offer.
• If you do not have a Finnish personal identity code and online banking ID / mobile certificate:
  You will receive an email from the Studyinfo portal with instructions on how to accept the study place. The email includes a personal link to a web page where you can accept the study place.
• If you have a Finnish personal identity code but do not have Finnish online banking ID / mobile certificate:
  Contact the Student Services as soon as possible. Inform in your email message that you cannot accept the study place online yourself as you do not have a Finnish online banking ID (but have Finnish personal ID code). Send the message from the same email address you have used for applying to the university.
  The Student Services will assist you in accepting your study place.

You can accept only one study place leading to a higher education degree in Finland

According to the one study place per term provision (Universities Act 558/2009) you can accept only one study place leading to a higher education degree in Finland during one academic term. Higher education degrees include bachelor’s, master’s, licentiate and doctoral degrees awarded by universities as well as polytechnic degrees. The academic terms run from 1 August to 31 December and 1 January to 31 July.

Even if you postpone the commencement of studies, or interrupt your studies, you cannot accept another study place for a degree programme starting in the same academic term. If you are offered admission to more than one study place in different admissions, consider carefully which one you accept. You cannot cancel the acceptance of a study place.

Applicants on a waiting list

Applicants placed on a waiting list are informed of their waiting list number when the admission results are published. If an admitted applicant does not accept the admission offer by the deadline, the applicant highest on the study option’s waiting list will be admitted. Applicants can be admitted off the waiting list until 12 June 2025. 

If you are admitted off the waiting list, you will receive an email to the email address you have given in the application system. The deadline to accept the admission offer received from the waiting list is by 29 April 2025 at 15.00 (3 pm, UTC +3) or within 7 days of the admission notification. Check your personal acceptance deadline from your admission letter and then follow the above instructions for accepting the offer.

Did you get admitted to your second priority study option and placed on a waiting list to your first study option?

If you applied to two study options at Aalto University and were admitted to your second priority study option and placed on a waiting list to your first study option, you can accept the offer of admission to your second study option conditionally and choose to remain on a waiting list for your first study option.

The confirmation of accepting the second study place will become binding, if you are not admitted off the waiting list to your first study option. If you are admitted off the waiting list to your first study option, the acceptance of the study place will transfer to your first study option automatically and become binding.

If you are admitted to your second study option and choose to remain on the waiting list for your first study option, you can change the conditional acceptance of the admission offer to your second study option as binding (if it has not changed already) and stop being on the waiting list. This change cannot be withdrawn.

You can enrol to the university only after the conditional acceptance of the study place has become binding.

A conditional acceptance of the admission offer cannot be changed to cancellation of accepting the admission offer. In that sense, also a conditional acceptance is binding.

Note that scholarships are study-option-specific. If you are granted a scholarship to your second study option, it does not transfer to your first study option. You lose the scholarship, if you do not accept the study place bindingly and are admitted off the waiting list to your first study option. If you want to receive the scholarship and start studies in your second study option, accept the study place bindingly as soon as possible.

Are you already an Aalto University student and wish to accept a new study place?

If you already have a right to study at a Master’s programme in Aalto University, note that you can have only one valid right to study towards the same degree. If you accept a new study right in a master's programme leading to the same degree at Aalto, your old study right is cancelled.

In addition, if you already have a study right in the interdisciplinary programme International Design Business Management or Creative Sustainability, and you accept a new study right in the same programme leading to a different degree, your old study right will be cancelled.

Majority of applicants must submit certified educational documents. If you must submit certified (attested) documents, it is written in your admission letter.

The certified educational documents must be received by the given deadline. Admission is conditional until the certified documents have been received.

Deadline for officially certified documents

• The deadline for the officially certified educational documents is 15 May 2025 (at 15.00, UTC +3) for applicants admitted from 9 to 13 April.
• For applicants admitted from 14 April to 12 June, the deadline is 15 August 2025 (at 15.00, UTC +3).

Conditionally granted study right will be cancelled if certified documents; or documents required according to the country-specific document requirements; are not received in the required manner by the deadline.

The deadlines are the same to all applicants and will not be extended.

Applicants with an incomplete degree

If you applied with an incomplete degree and were admitted between 9–13 April, there are two different deadlines for the certified documents:

1. 15 May 2025 (at 15:00, UTC +3) for the certified copy of transcript of study records (and its official translation, if it is not in English, Finnish or Swedish) and
2. 15 August 2025 (at 15:00, UTC +3) for the certified copy of degree certificate (and its authorised translation, if applicable). 
   The graduation date may not be later than 31 July 2025.

In case the required documents are not received by the deadline, or if you are not able to graduate by the deadline, the conditionally granted study right will be cancelled.

Read carefully the instructions for certified documents. Make sure to send your certified documents so that they arrive well before the deadline.

Follow the instructions on Country-specific document requirements page if your degree is completed in any of the listed countries. There is a country-specific requirement also for degrees completed in Finland.

Degree students who are citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland are generally required to pay tuition fees. The amount of the tuition fee as well as information of possibly awarded scholarship is in the letter of admission.

You can pay the tuition fee after accepting the admission offer bindingly. Please find instructions for paying the tuition fee here. The tuition fee needs to be paid in full before enrolling at the university. We recommend that the tuition fee is paid at the latest by 31 July 2025. If you have been awarded an Aalto University Excellence Scholarship, the scholarship covers your tuition fee. Please see more information about accepting the scholarship terms further down in the checklist (10. Accept the Aalto University Excellence Scholarship terms).

Non-EU/EEA citizens

If you are not a citizen of a country in the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA), you are normally required to have a residence permit in Finland.

The residence permit application process takes time, so please apply for the residence permit immediately, and start making the arrangements for the compulsory visit to a Finnish mission (embassy or consulate). You need to have a valid residence permit before arriving in Finland and starting your studies.

EU/EEA citizens

EU/EEA citizens do not need a residence permit, but upon arrival in Finland, must register their right of residence. The application for the EU registration must be submitted within three months of the day of arrival. Please see .

The application can be submitted online, however the registration process requires a personal visit at the . It is advisable to  beforehand (already in the summer), as waiting times can be long and in September there may not be time slots available anymore.

Citizens of Nordic countries

Nordic citizens do not need a residence permit but upon arrival in Finland must register their personal data in the Finnish Population Information system. In connection with the registration, you will receive a Finnish personal identity code.

If you applied with an incomplete degree, your degree must be completed by 31 July 2025. 

Submit a certified copy of your degree certificate / diploma (and its authorised translation, if the document is not in English, Finnish or Swedish) as soon as possible. The document(s) must be received at the latest by 15 August 2025 (3:00 pm, UTC +3).

If you are not able to graduate or the required documents are not received by the deadline, the conditionally granted study place will be cancelled.

Read and follow the instructions on Country-specific document requirements page if your degree is completed in any of the listed countries. There is a country-specific requirement also for degrees completed in Finland.

After accepting the offer of admission, you have to enrol each academic year as either an attending or a non-attending student. 

For new master students, the enrolment period begins on 9 April 2025. We strongly recommend new students to enrol by 31 July 2025 for a smooth start to studies.

All degree students must enrol as either attending or non-attending each academic year. If you do not enrol as attending or non-attending by the end of the enrolment period (at the latest by 29 August 2025), you will forfeit your right to study.

Have you been conditionally admitted? 
You cannot enrol before the condition is met.

If your admission offer is conditional, you can enrol at the university only after the condition has been fulfilled and the admission is not conditional anymore. 

Note that you may be subject to several conditions. The conditions are stated in your admission letter.

Admissions conditions that prevent enrolment are the following:

• If you applied with an incomplete degree, your admission is conditional until Admission Services has received your degree certificate. Read the instructions for submitting documents after admission. You can enrol at the university when you have received an email from Admission Services about receiving your documents.
• If you are required to submit certified copies of documents, your admission to the university is conditional. Read the instructions for submitting documents after admission. You can enrol at the university when you have received an email from Admission Services about receiving your documents.
• Tuition-fee students must first pay their tuition fee before enrolling in My Studyinfo. Your tuition fee must be received in full by the university before enrolment is possible. You will receive a confirmation email from the university when the payment has been processed and you can continue with enrolment.
   

Enrolment as an attending student

To enrol as an attending student at Aalto University, login to and use the enrolment service to pay the obligatory of the Aalto University Student Union (AYY). 

• Students without Finnish personal identity code and Finnish online banking ID:
  Login to Studyinfo with your personal link that is in the email from Studyinfo. The email was sent on 9 April or later and has a subject "Offer of admission in Studyinfo".
  If you have deleted the email, contact Student Services at studentservices@aalto.fi and request for resending the email from Studyinfo.

If you cannot use the payment methods in the enrolment service of Studyinfo and therefore cannot enrol online, contact the Student Services at studentservices@aalto.fi.

The enrolment period begins on 9 April 2025. Enrolling as attending is a precondition for using any Aalto services, getting a student number and registering for courses. 

To ensure that your student status is valid from the beginning of the academic year (1 August) we strongly recommend enrolling by 31 July 2025 and preferably sooner if possible. Enrolling is, however, possible only after all of the admissions conditions have been met.

Please note: the transfer of enrolment information from one system to another takes 2-3 days. In other words, the information is transferred to services such as Studyinfo, HSL, FSHS and Frank with a delay.

Enrolment as a non-attending student (i.e. deferring the start of studies)

In your first year of studies you can enrol as a non-attending student (i.e. defer the start of your studies) only for reasons referred to in the Universities Act (Yliopistolaki 558/2009, Section 39), that is, if you are:

• in active service referred to in accordance with the Conscription Act (1438/2007), the Non-Military Service Act (1446/2007) or the Act on Voluntary Military Service for Women (194/1995).
  Note that this is valid only for service performed for the state of Finland;
• on maternity, paternity or parental leave; or
• unable to start your studies due to a medical condition or injury.

If you do not have a reason specified in the Universities Act for your enrolment as a non-attending student, you must enrol as an attending student. 

Instructions on enrolment as a non-attending student

Enrol as non-attending in . You must have one of the reasons listed above to enrol as non-attending and you must submit a certificate verifying the reason to the university. 

• Students without Finnish personal identity code and online banking ID:
  Use the same personal link that you have received in the email from Studyinfo before accepting your study place. If you have deleted the email, contact Student Services at studentservices@aalto.fi and request for resending the email from Studyinfo.

If your reason for enrolling as non-attending is military or non-military service in Finland, send the documents verifying the reason to the Student Services at studentservices@aalto.fi. Type the following as the subject of the email: "New student enrolment as non-attending, certificate / [your name], [your study option/programme]".

If you refer to parental leave, send the documents as a secure message via to to the student services at: confidential-startingpoint@aalto.fi. State clearly in the subject of the email: "New student enrolment as non-attending, certificate / [your name], [your study option/programme]".

If you refer to a medical condition, send the documents as a secure message via to the school-specific student services e-mail address. State clearly in the subject of the email: "New student enrolment as non-attending, certificate / [your name], [your study option/programme]".

Follow the instructions for sending secure messages.

The certificates must be either in English, Finnish or Swedish. If the original certificate has been translated from some other language, the original document must be included.

Enrol as non-attending and submit the document(s) by 31 July 2025 at the latest, or sooner if possible, in order to allow enough time to process them by the end of the enrolment period 29 August 2025.

If you do not have a valid reason to enrol as a non-attending student, you will receive a notification and instructions on how to enrol as an attending student.

Duration of non-attendance

If you have a reason specified in the law for enrolling as non-attending during your first year of studies and it is in effect between 1 August 2025 and 31 July 2026, you can enrol as non-attending for the entire academic year. Note that a non-attending status may affect the amount of time you have remaining to complete a degree. For further information, see the effect of periods of absence on the permissible duration of studies.

• If you enrolled as non-attending for the whole academic year but you want to have non-attending status for the autumn term only, you must change your spring term 2026 enrolment status to attending. You can enrol as attending in OILI service or by contacting the Student Services. You will need to pay the Aalto University Student Union (AYY) for the spring term, payment can be made in OILI.
• If you have enrolled as attending for the whole academic year, but want to be non-attending for the spring term 2026 only, you must change your spring term 2026 enrollment status to non-attending during the spring term enrollment period at the turn of the year 2025/2026. To do this, submit document(s) verifying the reason for the non-attending to the student services. You may apply for a for the spring term after the enrolment has been completed.

Military service, non-military service or other long period of non-attendance

If you have accepted your offer of admission before year 2024, please contact the Student Services (at studentservices@aalto.fi) to find out about starting your studies.

Students who have accepted offer of admission in 2024 or earlier

As you have already accepted your study place the instructions on how to accept the admission offer do not concern you. Enrol to the university between 2 May - 29 August 2025 in the.

Remember to read your Aalto email address! If you have not activated your Aalto IT account yet, do it now.

New students admitted in 2025

If you plan to enrol as a non-attending student in your first year of study, accept the offer of admission and enrol following the instructions in the section Enrolment as a non-attending student.

• If you enrol as a non-attending student only for the autumn term, contact your school no later than in November to ensure a swift start to your studies in January.
• If you enrol as non-attending for the whole academic year, follow up on these pages in summer 2026 for up-to-date information on starting your studies in 2026–2027.
• If you enrol as a non-attending student for the spring term, contact your school no later than in November to ensure a swift return to studies in the academic year 2026–2027.

Duration of studies

The right to study is valid for only a definite period of time. This means that you can only enrol as a non-attending student for a certain amount of terms without it having an effect on the time you have left to complete your degree. The maximum duration of studies is defined in different ways depending on the reason for absence. For more information, see permissible duration of studies.

Apply for housing as soon as you have accepted the admission offer or as soon as possible with the respective housing provider (e.g. not earlier than four months prior to the intended start of the contract).

Student housing is provided by the (AYY) or the (HOAS).

Aalto University does not own student apartments and students are responsible for seeking housing themselves.

Studies at Aalto University start with an orientation during late August – early September.

Check on your programme page in the Student Guide the section "During your studies" -> "Starting your studies" the exact start date of the orientation programme and plan your arrival schedule accordingly. 

Consider reserving a couple of days for settling in before the orientation programme. The courses start on 1 September 2025.

You can activate your Aalto University IT account at the earliest in July after you have enrolled for the academic year and received an activation email for your Aalto IT account. If you have accepted an offer of admission in 2024 or earlier, you can activate your Aalto IT account right away. 

The Aalto IT username and password are used to login to all Aalto online services. Once you have activated your IT account, you have access to many electronic services, including your Aalto email. The university uses the Aalto email as the primary means of communication, so it is essential that you keep on top of your Aalto email at all times.

You will receive an invitation to activate your Aalto University IT to your personal email. The email is sent when the activation of Aalto IT account is possible. The email is sent to the email address you used for applying to the university. Follow the instructions of IT services and activate your account as soon as possible. 

You can activate your account at if you have Finnish online banking ID, Finnish mobile certificate or Finnish electronic ID (HST) card.

• If you do not have a possibility to strong identification (e.g. Finnish online banking ID), you will receive an activation email. Please follow the instructions at aalto.fi. The activation uses your email and phone number in your student admission application.
• If self-activation is not possible, you must visit the IT service desk to activate your Aalto IT account. Remember to bring an official, photographic ID with you (such as passport).

If you have been awarded an Aalto University Excellence Scholarship, remember to accept the scholarship terms before the given deadline for the scholarship to be valid.

You can find the scholarship terms of acceptance and the link for approving the terms here. Read the terms of the scholarship carefully. Please note that you can only log in to the form for accepting the terms of the scholarship after you have activated your Aalto IT account.

The deadline for accepting the terms is 29 August 2025. Remember that if you do not accept the terms of the scholarship by the given deadline, the scholarship is not valid and your enrolment for the academic year may be cancelled.

The new study right begins on August 1, 2025. The right to student benefits starts on 1 August at the earliest and only after enrolling as an attending student. 

If you wish to get the student card and discounts at the beginning of the semester (1 August 2025), enrol as attending at the latest by 31 July 2025.

The student card is a proof of your student status and it is the simplest way to get student discounts in, for instance, the university restaurants and public transport. For information on the student card, see .

You can download an for mobile devices after you have enrolled as an attending student. The activation of the electronic student card is not possible before 1 August. The electronic card is accepted in the university restaurants and public transport as proof of student status. The app will ask for your Finnish ID number but you can leave this field blank if you do not have one yet.

University students who are entitled to use the services of the have been required since January 2021 to pay a student healthcare fee to the Social Insurance Institution of Finland KELA for each academic term.

All students who are registered as attending for the current term and are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree are entitled to FSHS services. However, you do not have to pay the healthcare fee if you have social security coverage from another EU/EEA country or from Switzerland or the United Kingdom. Even if you do not have to pay the fee, you can still use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service. Read more on .

If you are entitled to FSHS services, you must pay the student healthcare fee. You cannot get an exemption for example for using occupational health services instead of FSHS, or for not receiving any financial aid for students.

You are not billed for the student healthcare fee but must make sure to pay it in OmaKela for each academic term. The due date for paying the student healthcare fee is determined based on the date on which you register as attending. Read instructions on KELA webpage:

Non-Finnish students with permanent residence (type A or P) in Finland may qualify for the governmental financial aid. A description of the right to receive student financial aid is available on the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (KELA) .

Complete a self-study preorientation on learning platform in July/August, when you have activated your Aalto user ID. Pre-orientation takes 3-4 hours to complete. You can activate your Aalto user ID at the earliest in July after you have enrolled for the academic year (see section "9. Activate your Aalto user account" on this page).
