ModerninArvo project affects debate on fate of modern buildings

The main individual sector in creating a carbon-neutral Finland is renovation construction. The surge in demolition and replacement of young building stock and entire areas through carbon-intensive construction is problematic for sustainability. The ModerninArvo project aims at finding solutions to the continued shrinking of the life cycles of architecture, and the renovation and re-use of the architecture from recent decades. The project is being funded by the Finnish Cultural Foundation.

NDI Briefing Note: The urgent need for standardized assessment of microplastic pollution in the Arctic Ocean

The researchers suggest that the development of standard protocols for microplastic pollution analysis should be approached as a co-creation effort among research laboratories and other institutions. Citizens could also be engaged in the sampling and hot-spot identification.
This would decrease the costs of fieldwork and educate citizens of Arctic communities on environmental issues and the responsible use of plastics.
