Foundation for Aalto University Science and Technology

Extra support for foreign Master's Thesis writers

Foundation for Aalto University Science and Technology will top up a Master's thesis grant by an extra 2000 eur if the grant recipient's Bachelor degree is from outside Finland!

Foundation for Aalto University Science and Technology wants to support networking between companies and international students. Both the students, the companies and the Finnish society will benefit if international students can stay in Finland after their graduation and join the Finnish labour market.

In a pilot initiative, the Foundation gives extra support to M.Sc. Thesis writers coming from abroad, to encourage the first contacts between a student and a company. If the following conditions are met:

  • Your Bachelor degree is from outside Finland
  • You study for a Master of Science degree at Aalto CHEM, ELEC, ENG or SCI, or Department of Architecture
  • A company has made a donation to the Foundation, to a field of science of your supervising Professor (Please note that the Foundation does not have a list of suitable companies but those are negotiated case by case, so please ask your Professor about this)
  • You are about to receive a Master's Thesis stipend from the Foundation (How to get one? Please see here!)

..then you will get an extra 2 000 eur stipend! For example, a 10 000 eur stipend then becomes 12 000 eur.

For a company who is making a donation to the Foundation, this means that a smaller donation will suffice. For example, from a 12 500 eur donation, the Foundation can issue a 10 000 + 2 000 eur stipend to a student, whereas without this extra support, the student would only receive a 10 000 eur stipend. Smaller donations are welcome as well. Please see this page for additional information for donors, including the deed of gift forms.

Please note our Master's Thesis stipends are typically up to 12 000 eur, and the extra 2000 eur cannot go beyond that.

This pilot is reserved for 10 new grant applicants between June 2020 and December 2020. Master's Thesis stipends allocated before June 2020 will be excluded.
