The 'SCALES in Textiles' conference will take place on April 8-10, 2025 at Aalto University. Below you will find the detailed event program and more information about the keynote speakers. Please note that any changes or updates to the schedule may be communicated closer to the event date.

From Prototype to Market: Scaling Innovation in the Age of Industry 4.0

Dr. Martijn ten Bh枚mer holds expertise in Human-Computer Interaction with an emphasis on smart textiles and personalized products and service systems. He works as Associate Professor in the Department of Mechatronics and Robotics at Xi鈥檃n Jiaotong-Liverpool University in Suzhou. Prior to this, he served as Program Director of the Master鈥檚 program in Industrial Design and established the 鈥楧igital Manufacturing Lab鈥 at the same institution. 

Beyond academia, Dr. ten Bh枚mer has a robust track record in R&D, having worked at Microsoft Research UK, Deutsche Telekom, OMsignal, and Bambi Medical, merging academic insights with industry expertise. As the co-founder and CTO of Femooi, Dr. ten Bh枚mer continues to drive innovation at the forefront of intelligent product design and development.

Environmental Sustainability of Emerging Bio-based Materials in Energy, Water Purification and Textile Industries

Dr Erlantz Lizundia is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering in Bilbao, University of the Basque Country. Erlantz develops environmentally sustainable materials and technologies based on renewable materials (mostly cellulose and chitin) for energy storage, water remediation, sensing or active packaging purposes. Erlantz also utilizes Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for the eco-design of batteries, polymer upcycling or biopolymer valorization.
