Presentations
The SCALES in Textiles conference invites participants to propose presentations that explore the conference theme, "SCALES."
Presentations will be reviewed by the conference program committee, and accepted proposals will be organized into thematic sessions. Each session will begin with 15-minute presentations, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A.
We encourage a diverse range of perspectives and insights related to the theme, drawing from academic research, professional practice, or artistic exploration.
Submission Guidelines
Submit your proposal by 31 January 2025 via the submission form. Proposals should include:
- Title of the proposed presentation
- Abstract (maximum 500 words)
- Presenter details: Name(s), positions, and/or titles
- Affiliation: Employer or institution
- Contact information: Email
- Short biography: Maximum 100 words
- Attendance confirmation: Confirmation that you can attend the conference and present in person if selected
Workshops
We invite you to propose workshops for the SCALES in Textiles conference, creating opportunities for engaging with specific topics, methods, or challenges through practical activities or focused dialogue. Whether you aim to inspire creative collaboration, share specialised techniques, or explore emerging questions in the field of textiles, workshops are a space to connect with others who share similar interests.
Submission Guidelines

- Workshop Title: The title of your proposed workshop
- Workshop Description: A detailed description of the workshop content and objectives
- Workshop Details: Maximum number of participants, any required equipment, and setup needs
- Host Information: Name(s), position(s), and/or title(s) of the workshop host(s)
- Affiliation: Employer or affiliated institution
- Contact Information: Email address for correspondence
- Short Biography: A brief biography (maximum 100 words) for each host
- Attendance confirmation: Confirmation that you can attend the conference and present in person if selected
All workshop proposals will be reviewed by the conference program committee.
Exhibition
We invite you to submit artwork proposals that explore the conference theme, 'SCALES.' This theme can be interpreted in various ways within the realm of textiles, including temporal scales, physical or dimensional scales, scales of practice (ranging from craft to industrial processes), and contextual scales.
We encourage submissions from a wide range of practitioners, whether their work stems from academic research, professional expertise, or artistic exploration. This exhibition serves as a platform to explore the conference theme through visual and physical expressions, encouraging insightful dialogue and exchange.
Selected artworks will be curated by the conference program committee. Please note that the author is expected to cover the exhibition installation.

Doctoral consortium
We invite PhD students to participate in the Doctoral Consortium at the SCALES in Textiles conference. This consortium offers an interdisciplinary workshop where doctoral researchers can present and discuss their ongoing and future research with peers and senior researchers in the field. It is a valuable opportunity to receive constructive feedback, exchange ideas, and connect with a supportive academic community.
Submission Guidelines
Interested candidates should submit their Doctoral Consortium proposals by January 31 via the submission form. The proposal should include:
- Personal Details: Your name, advisor(s) name(s), university where you are conducting your doctoral work
- PhD Program Information: Current year of study and projected completion date
- Research Context and Motivation: Context for your research and its relevance to the conference theme, the motivation behind your work
- Research Focus: Key related work that frames your research, specific research objectives, goals, or questions
- Progress and Methods: Current progress in your research, research approach, methods, and rationale
- Outcomes and Next Steps: Results and contributions to date, expected next steps
The Doctoral Consortium will be held in a hybrid format. Please indicate whether you plan to participate in person or online.
Submissions will be reviewed by the Doctoral Consortium committee. Selected participants will have the opportunity to present their research and receive feedback during the event.
