Campus bikes and cycling
The mode of transport has a significant impact on the environment. Aalto strives to offer the most sustainable way of transport between campuses and within. Aalto and ACRE cooperate with HRT and nearby cities.
Bikepoli, Aalto University’s student cycling club founded in 2002, will be at Korkeakoulunaukio on Wednesday, May 7, from 11:00 to 13:00 to host an open do-it-yourself bike maintenance workshop. Bikepoli members will be on-site to offer repair guidance and share useful tips for bike maintenance and upkeep. Basic tools and selected specialty tools will be available for participants to use.
'Cycling can be enjoyed in many ways. Among Bikepoli members, you’ll find everyone from casual riders to serious enthusiasts. What unites us all is the joy and everyday benefits that come with life on two wheels,' say representatives from the Bikepoli board.
What’s Included in the Workshop
ACRE and Bikepoli encourage the Aalto community to choose cycling whenever possible.
Cycling reduces travel costs and helps cut down on traffic-related noise and air pollution. It also brings many health benefits, especially in desk-based study and work life. It can help relieve tension in the neck and shoulders, strengthen leg muscles, and maintain joint mobility. Cycling also improves balance and coordination – and above all, it promotes overall well-being and daily energy.
More bike parking spots have been added on campus to support cycling. Campus bikes are available to staff, and city bikes can be used by both staff and students from April to September.
The event is free of charge and open to all members of the Aalto community.
