Generative AI and copyright, Mar 17, 2025

Come join this timely discussion on generative AI and copyright by one of the most prominent experts in Finland, Legal Counsel Maria Rehbinder.
Generative AI and copyright

Description

Generative AI is transforming how we view creative work and creative industries. For instance, Large Language Models (LLMs) can synthesise vast text corpuses, and AI image generators can be used to create illustrations and art works.

However, with AI partaking in creative processes, questions about copyright also arise. Who is the owner of text created by LLMs and illustrations by image generators? What constitutes a unique work of art when the creative process was assisted by AI? How should we acknowledge the use of AI when we conduct science or create art?

Come join this timely discussion on generative AI and copyright by one of the most prominent experts in Finland, Legal Counsel Maria Rehbinder, Aalto University.

The talk consists of two sections:

  1. Background: generative AI, transparency obligations and AI ACT
  2. Generative AI and questions of copyright
