Anna Klemettinen

Anna Klemettinen is a university lecturer at the Department of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering. With a strong passion for teaching, experimental research in metals recycling, and advancing the principles of the circular economy, she brings deep knowledge and genuine enthusiasm to her work. Anna has extensive experience teaching and supervising students across various academic levels, nationalities, and cultural backgrounds. Her teaching focuses on sustainable metals processing and the circular economy of metals, where she combines theoretical knowledge with practical insights to inspire her students. She earned her Doctor of Science and Technology degree in 2019 from Wroclaw University of Technology, Poland. Her doctoral research explored the recycling of rare earth metals from electronics using hydrometallurgical processes. Looking to the future, Anna is committed to further developing curricula and teaching methods that foster a diverse and inclusive learning environment. She aims to create a space where every student feels safe, valued, and empowered to achieve their full potential.

Marike Langhans

Doctoral researcher Marike Langhans (Department of Chemistry and Materials Science, Aalto University) received her MSc. in Wood Science from the University of Hamburg in 2022. In her doctoral studies, she has turned away from wood, because in her opinion wood is a great material, but should not be used for everything. Instead, she is utilising lignocellulosic materials from the food and agricultural industries to develop sound-absorbing materials. Marike engages in extra-curricular activities related to EDI topics. For example, together with other Aaltonians, they founded QueerA! in August 2023. QueerA! aims to improve LGBTQIA+ visibility at Aalto University and supports new staff with needed information (e.g. trans healthcare) and to find a safe space. She is in addition a newly appointed member of the CHEM EDI Group.
