Process Systems Engineering

The Process Systems Engineering group, led by Prof. Iiro Harjunkoski combines elements from Chemical Engineering, Operations Research and Computer Science in solving problems related to planning and scheduling optimization of production processes and related supply chains. The integration of process and energy systems considering sustainability and strengthening circular economy are of special interest.
PSE covers many research topics and objectives under the "optimization umbrella"

The group of Process Systems Engineering (PSE) is working on classical topics such as planning and scheduling, supply chain optimization and mathematical optimization of chemical processes and related operational problems with a special attention to energy topics. Special fields of focus are:

  1. Process electrification
  2. Sustainable supply chains
  3. Hybrid methods for optimizing large-scale problems

Other topics of interest are waste supply chain management, application of mixed integer linear and non-linear programming methods, and extending the PSE methods to new applications to improve sustainability with simultaneous focus and profitability and operability.
