Campus Development Plan 2030

The Campus Development Plan 2030 guides the development of the campus to support the purpose and strategy of the university. Its goal is also to strengthen the campus's identity, brand and sense of community, and to support the development of the entire Otaniemi region and the attractiveness of the campus. In practice, the plan outlines how Aalto University's facilities will be developed in the coming years.

Campus as an Enabler

The Campus Development Plan 2030 is a plan carried out involving the community for the development of the campus up to the year 2030. The Otaniemi campus enables the realization of Aalto University's purpose, values, and ways of operating. The plan guides how different areas of the physical campus environment, such as teaching and learning spaces, research infrastructure, office spaces, partner spaces, private and public services, as well as living, will meet the needs of the entire university and university ecosystem. Sustainable development serves as the cornerstone for the development of the entire campus.

The plan follows the goals and guidelines of the university's strategy in the development of the campus:

  • Speeding up flexible working and learning
  • Mixing of physical and digital campus
  • Growing importance of wellbeing and connection to nature
  • Campus safety and sustainability
  • Pursuing value added to our campus community

Key Targets for Campus 2030

The plan is based on the goals approved by the board of Aalto University, which are in line with the university's mission and strategy: to shape a sustainable future. A sustainable campus is developed through three sets of goals: community spirit, environment and economy.

    1. Carbon neutral campus
    2. Energy saving goal 20 %
  3. Financial
    1. University facilities 10 % of total cost
    2. Partner rental income avg 4 % annual growth

Aalto University Campus & Real Estate - ACRE

Aalto University Campus & Real Estate (ACRE) maintains, develops and rents out Aalto University facilities in Otaniemi and Töölö. We also build new concepts and shared facilities for parties outside the university, thus turning Otaniemi into a unique partnership centre and the most inspiring campus in the world.
