Applying to double degree programmes for partner university students
The students must first be nominated by their own university to study for the double degree, then apply for the study right at Aalto University. The next application period for the nominated students to fill their application for Aalto is held in Spring 2026. Application instructions and specific dates will be published by October 2025.

Note that the programmes only accept applications from nominated applicants.
- Read the application instructions carefully and prepare your documents in advance.
- Fill and submit the during the application period
8 – 22 April 2025, 3.00 pm (UTC+3hrs). - Submit scans of your original application documents on the application form at latest by 29 April 2025, 3.00 pm (UTC+3hrs).
- Wait for the notification that your application has been checked for eligibility requirements and sent to academic evaluation. If your documents are incomplete, you may be requested to supplement your documents or to provide more information by email. Make sure to respond to any requests for clarifications without delay.
- Wait for the admission results to be published in May 2025.

Upload scans of the following original documents as PDF-files:
- Official Bachelor’s degree certificate or a certificate for equivalent studies. If your degree is a top up degree, also include a certificate of the earlier degree/diploma that has given you an advanced standing in the bachelor's programme.
- Authorised translation of the degree certificate (if the language of the original document is other than English/Finnish/Swedish), written by the university that has issued the degree or by an authorised translator.
- Official transcript of study records of your Bachelor’s degree listing your completed university studies. If your degree is a top up degree, you must also provide an official transcript of records of the preceding studies.
- Authorised translation of the Bachelor transcript of records (if the language of the original document is other than English/Finnish/Swedish), written by the university that has issued the transcript or by an authorised translator.
- Official transcript of study records on the Master studies completed so far
- Motivation letter (if required by the programme; not required for CoDaS)
- CV (if required by the programme; not required for CoDaS)
- Valid passport or ID card with photo, including information on citizenship.
- Proof of English language proficiency (e.g., language test results). See further information on how to submit your proof of language proficiency in the following section.
All application documents must be submitted by 29 April 2025 3.00 PM (UTC+3hrs). Late submissions are not accepted.
If you have one of the following, providing language test results is not required:
- Proof of English proficiency (at least B2 on the CEFR scale) provided by your current university. For applicants from University of Reykjavik: the required language studies are included in the double degree curriculum - no other proof besides your official transcript of records from the first year of studies is required.

University degree completed in English in one of the following countries while residing in that country:
a European Union (EU) / European Economic Area (EEA) country, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Botswana, Cameroon, Canada, Dominica, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, New Zealand, Nigeria, the Philippines, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, the United Kingdom, the United States, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
A minimum of one half of the degreemust be completed in English in a country listed above and in a higher education institution that meets the requirements for exemption from taking an English language test.The language of the degree must be stated unambiguously on the degree certificate or its appendix, or on the transcript of records or other official document issued by the awarding institution (excluding Australia, Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States).

Secondary education completed in English in EU/EEA country, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom or the United States while residing in that country
A minimum of one half of the degreemust have been completed in English in a country listed above to be exempted from taking an English language test.
If the degree is completed in an EU/EEA country, Switzerland or South Africa, English as the language of instruction must be stated unambiguously on the certificate. For those countries, if the language of instruction is not indicated on the certificate, upload an official document issued by the institution clearly stating the language of instruction.
In all other cases, you are required to submit the results of an accepted language test to prove your English proficiency.
Accepted language tests at Aalto University and their minimum requirements:
- IELTS Academic, 6.5 overall score and 6.0 writing score
- TOEFL iBT (internet-based test), 92 overall score and 22 writing score
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, 62 overall score and 54 writing score
- Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency; scores A, B, C or C1
- National Certificate of Language Proficiency YKI (English) by the Finnish National Agency for Education, proficiency level 5 in all subtests
IELTS, TOEFL and PTE tests are valid for 2 years starting from the test date, oldest acceptable test date: 8.4.2023
For Cambridge language tests, only tests completed after 2005 are accepted.
All applicants are required to submit proof of their English proficiency by 29 April 2025, 3pm (UTC+3hrs). Late submissions are not accepted.
IELTS: Upload a copy of your test report form (TRF) on the online application form.
TOEFL: Request your official score report to be sent from the test administrator 91ÇàÇà²Ý University (reporting code: 7364) so that it reaches Aalto University on time before the deadline. Note: TOEFL scores are usually available within 1-2 weeks after sending the request, so the request needs to be made well in advance.
PTE: Log in to your PTE account and send your test results 91ÇàÇà²Ý University.
Cambridge: Upload a copy of your results report to the online application form AND log into the test administrator’s service and share your results 91ÇàÇà²Ý University.
All language test results are verified electronically. The scores need to be available for Aalto University to verify at latest by 29 April 2025, 3pm (UTC+3hrs).
The next application period will be in Spring 2026.
When you start filling the application, it needs to be filled completely and submitted, it cannot be saved as a draft.
After you have submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation email. If you need to edit your application details, contact admissions@aalto.fi. Mention that you are applying for a bilateral double degree.
After the application period has ended, you still have a week for submitting the documents. Please remember to save the link for submitting the documents from the application form. If you have not saved the link, request it by email from admissions@aalto.fi. All your documents must include your name in the file name. You can submit the documents if they are missing, before the deadline 29 April 2025, 3pm (UTC+3hrs).

If you have been accepted, you will receive the study place offer by email and accept it electronically.
In order to begin your studies at Aalto University, you will need to accept the offered study place. There is a link in the email that you can follow to accept the study place electronically.
Accept the study place by the appointed deadline, otherwise you will lose the offered study place. Do note that your confirmation of the study place is binding, and you can not alter or cancel it later. In Finland there is a so called . If you take the offer, you will not be able to accept any other study place in Finland for degree studies starting in autumn 2025.
Aalto University will inform you about the admission decision by email also in the case that your application has been rejected.
