Public CV Panu Savolainen
Panu Savolainen is Professor (tenure track) of History of Architecture and Architectural
Conservation at Aalto University (Helsinki, Finland) and Head of Research of the department. His research interests include urban history and architectural history from the Middle Ages to nineteenth century. He earned his doctorate in history at the University of Turku. Savolainen has authored nine books, including a children’s book, and ca. 50 scholarly articles. He has also worked as a practicing architect, including housing design, urban planning and ruin conservation. His recent publications focus on birdfeeders as multispecies technology, medieval timber structures and the development of the concept of suburb in Finnish language. He is leading two on-going research projects concentrating on medieval architecture, funded by Kone Foundation and Research Council of Finland.
