With Beat the Blues! events Starting Point of Wellbeing offers you a safe space to make new friends and maybe learn something new about surviving - and thriving - in Finland.

Welcome to share experiences in a relaxed atmosphere and to gain insights on topics related to living in Finland.

Beat the Blues! events are: At Otaniemi campus (Otakaari 1, Undergraduate Center). Free of charge. Open 91青青草 international community. We wish that you register in advance, so that we can prepare enough snacks. We offer a safe space and time for coming together and discussing with international students. You are warmly welcome - come as you are!

Employment in Finland

WHEN: Wednesday 22nd January at 16.00-18.00

WHERE: Otakaari 1, 5th floor, room U523 Top Lounge 

Join us to talk about your experiences on job search and working in Finland. What good practices would you like to share with your fellow students, and on the other hand, what challenges have you faced as a jobseeker in Finland. This spring's first Beat the Blues event offers a space and time for networking with other international students and reflecting on job seeking themes.

After warm-up, Aalto Career Design Lab manager Aila Saloranta will give an introduction to the topic of job search in Finland as an international. The event continues with casual workshopping in small groups, covering topics such as job-seeking culture, language issues and networking. The goal of this event is to support you in navigating your way into Finnish job market.

Small snacks will be available! Please register in advance using the registration link. Registration gives us valuable information for practical arrangements.

Friends and freetime fun

WHEN: Wed 26th February at 16.00-18.00

WHERE: Otakaari 1, 5th floor, room U523 Top Lounge

As the light increases, the Finnish spring and summer with it's various festivities approach. However, what to do if you don't know where to go and with whom? Beat the Blues event in February is dedicated to finding friends and enjoying the upcoming Finnish spring. Come and find friends for a shared adventure and share the best tips.

I'm enough - the power of self compassion

WHEN: Wed 9th April at 16.00-18.00

WHERE: Otakaari 1, 5th floor, room U523 Top Lounge

Self-compassion can be described as an internal force, a skill that can help us navigate through the ups and downs in life. Its tender side allows us to treat ourselves with kindness and care when we most need it. Its fierce side can help us take action, to protect ourselves and reach our goals. It can also help us connect to others and therefore reduce loneliness.

The Starting Point of Wellbeing offers students easy access to counselling and advice on matters of well-being and study ability. The services available to you include drop-in (no reservation) advising/counselling sessions, peer support groups, and online materials. You can also make an appointment to receive individual counselling.
