Alumni email inbox
As an alum of Aalto University, you can activate the email inbox and address firstname.surname@alumni.aalto.fi. On this page you will find instructions for setting up the alumni email.
The alumni mailbox is a service provided by Aalto University. It is produced and managed as a Microsoft cloud services, and the user data is stored in Microsoft's Azure Active Directory. The size of the alumni mailbox is 50 GB.
The alumni email is intended only for Aalto University alumni, i.e. graduates of Aalto or its predecessor universities, former exchange students and Aalto University Executive Education alumni.
Please note that the alumni email is a separate email system from the aalto.fi email aimed at students or staff. We do not recommend redirecting your email from the aalto.fi address, as it expires 2 months after graduation.
This is how to activate your alumni email
- Activate your email inbox in by clicking alumni email. Your alumni email address (first name.last name) will be generated automatically. You'll receive two emails: one with instructions to your inbox and another one with a password. Did not receive the emails? Please check the junk emails.
- Open portal.office.com on your web browser.
- Please read the terms of use at www.microsoft.com/en-US/servicesagreement. Section 4b is the relevant one regarding your new inbox.
- Enter your own Aalto alumni email address (ending with @alumni.aalto.fi) sent to you in a separate email.
- Enter the password you received in a separate email. Note! You have received two separate emails if your email is in the alumni database.
- Follow the instructions on screen.
- Open your inbox at Outlook apps.
- You鈥檙e all set!

Frequently asked questions about Alumni email and inbox
Your alumni email is not the same as the firstname.surname@aalto.fi which expires 2 months after your graduation or in the end of your work contract. The alumni email address format is firstname.surname@alumni.aalto.fi.
Emails sent to the aalto.fi address after deactivation will not be forwarded to the alumni email address. Therefore, please remember to save any important content from your aalto.fi email account well in advance.
The email address is firstname.surname@alumni.aalto.fi. The name is generated automatically from the name in the study registry. It can be changed only if the name has changed (no nicknames). In case you want to change the name in the email, please contact crm-support@aalto.fi.
If you clicked alumni email in the contact form and didn't receive 2 emails within an hour, please check your junk emails. If you do not find the emails, follow these steps:
- Go to the address
- Read at the right lower corner of the Microsoft sign in page or here the terms of use . The use of the email inbox is at the section 4b.
- Write the @alumni.aalto.fi email you received by the email.
- Write the password you received by email and set your own. Please note that you received two separate emails.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Take the Outlook application in use and your inbox is ready.
- Go to the address
- Choose your alumni email if you have many, choose Outlook.
- Click 鈥滷orgot my password鈥.
- Follow the instructions and set the new password.
- Confirm via the link you received in your email.
You can do the forwarding of the emails in the alumni email inbox as follows:
- Forwarding can be done in your inbox at
- Choose your alumni email if you have many emails in outlook.
- Choose Outlook among apps.
- Click Settings (the cogwheel in the upper right corner), search Forwarding (or click View all Outlook settings 鈥 Email 鈥 Forwarding).
- Choose 鈥橢nable forwarding'. Write email address where you want the emails to be forwarded.
If your browser does not support alumni email, try to see if you can change it to the IMAP protocol. Microsoft no longer supports the old POP3 protocol.
