Designs for a Cooler Planet
Aalto University’s biggest annual exhibition presents cross-disciplinary experiments. Come explore students’ and researchers’ acts of change.
The webinar will start at 16:30, Tuesday 19 September 2023.
Embodied Intelligence (EI) can be seen as a third intelligence (after IQ and emotional intelligence) that has peaked the interest of progressive, forward-thinking academics and business leaders. EI has potential to address systemic sustainability challenges by harnessing embodied and perceptual capacities for transforming society and the self.
EI was at the center of 'Capacity Building of Creative Radicals' project, a bold cross-disciplinary initiative within Aalto's strategy and one of its cross-cutting approaches, Radical Creativity. Aaltonians experimented with capacity building tools that encourage us to break boundaries, cultivate new ways of knowing and learning, and make space for new possibilities.See more on the project website: /en/embodied-practices
El brings our deep values and multifaceted knowledge (intellectual, emotional, intuitive, embodied) into our responses to the escalating planetary crises. It helps us approach things with more openness, awareness, caring and deep commitment. Bodily sensations, quality of attention and relational capacities become key components of creative activity and ability to see the potential of what is possible in terms of a sustainable future.
EI also helps us befriend uncertainty and incompleteness that is so closely associated with "this era of surprises" (Sitra Megatrends 2023), and is intrinsically linked to exploring the practical means of implementation - the "how" of sustainability transformations (Bentz et al. 2021, 2022).
