Arriving in Helsinki

Helsinki-Vantaa Airport

The is located about 20 km north of Helsinki city center. It is the only international airport near Helsinki and has good connectivity to the major European and number of intercontinental destinations.

Public Transport from the Airport to Helsinki City Center

The airport train leaves directly from the airport to the Helsinki Central Railway Station, located roughly 600 meters from the conference hotel.  There are connections to Helsinki every 10-minutes during the daytime and both trains to both directions take you to Helsinki. The train ticket (zones ABC) costs 4,40 euros and can be bought at the ticket machines on the platform, on the HSL mobile app, or in various stores/kiosks. You can also buy the ticket on the blue ticket readers on the train with contactless payment (the price is 4.70 euros when using contactless payment). The train journey to Helsinki takes about 30 minutes.

There is also a bus connection from the airport to the city center. Local bus no. 600 operates between the airport and the central railway station with a travel time of approximately 40 minutes.

Taxi from the Airport

Taxi from the airport to the city center takes about 30 minutes. Some taxi companies offer a fixed price which is usually cheaper than a metered fare. Tipping is not expected. The most common credit cards are accepted. We recommend taking one of the taxis operating from lanes 1-3 at the airport taxi station as these have an agreement with the airport operator.

Weather

The daily mean temperature in August is 16 degrees Celsius (61°F), but 25 degrees (77°F) or 10 degrees (50°F) would not be completely unusual.

Please, check up to date before packing. With some luck, we should have a nice summer weather with no need for an umbrella.
