Social activities at the XII Unite! Dialogue - Sauna

To Finns, the sauna is a cherished cultural tradition and an integral part of daily life, symbolizing relaxation and a connection to nature. It serves as a communal and private space for physical and emotional cleansing, fostering social bonds and personal reflection. Saunas are deeply embedded in Finnish identity, offering a sanctuary for stress relief, health benefits, and the enjoyment of a simple, peaceful ambiance. Aalto invites our Unite! friends to experience Finnish sauna.

Venue, time and date

We invite you to experience Finnish sauna at Rantasauna, a sauna built by students of engineering, located on seaside on Aalto campus. The address is Jämeräntaival 5.

The sauna will be available on Monday, October 6, from 16:00 to 22:00. There will be three time slots, 16-18, 18-20, and 20-22. We ask everyone interested to pre-register so that we can reserve enough soft drinks, snacks etc. You can indicate in the registration form which sauna slot you would like to attend.

Practicalities

Rantasauna has two saunas, a larger electrically heated one for about 30 people, and a wood-fired smaller sauna for about 10 people. The smaller side will be reserved for female-identifying bathers, while the larger side is for everyone. Student guides will be on location to help visitors and answer questions.

We will provide towels, bench covers, soft drinks and snacs.

Please bring your own bathing suit and toiletries, and flip flops if you prefer not to walk barefoot.

Accessibility

The lounge is accessible.

The larger dressing room, sauna and shower rooms are spacious and accessible.

The smaller shower and sauna facilities are partly inaccessible due to narrow doors and small space.

There is no accessible toilet.

Access to the yard of Rantasauna is not entirely accessible. The most easily accessible route is via the waterfront walkway. At the end of the walkway at Otaranta 6-8, there is a parking lot available for car parking or taxi drop-off.
